London Considers 2022 Commonwealth Games Bid With Olympic Park As Centerpiece

London is "considering a bid to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games," with Olympic Park as its centerpiece, according to James Boylan of METRO. Olympic legacy bosses have admitted that the possibility "is something that is certainly in our minds at the moment." Mayor Boris Johnson's London 2012 Advisor Neale Coleman said: "We have great potential to use the stadium and the facilities there and to bid in the future for big sporting events. One possibility certainly is that we haven’t had a Commonwealth Games in London for a very, very long time." England last "staged the Commonwealths in Manchester" in '02 (METRO, 3/19). The AFP reported, "A series of key events on the sporting calendar are now heading towards Britain," including the '14 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and England's Rugby World Cup in '15. There is also the World Athletics Championships and the Paralympic Athletics World Championships "which will be held at London's Olympic Stadium" in '17. Coleman: "We have got a fantastic series of events building on that Olympic legacy of sporting events. We think that the Commonwealth Games could play a further role in developing that over the next decade" (AFP, 3/19). In Glasglow, John Glenday reported the organizing committee for the Glasgow '14 Commonwealth Games "announced the sale of broadcasting rights for the Indian subcontinent to TAJ TV" (THE DRUM, 3/19).
