Palmeiras' Reformed Stadium Will Have Modern Security System With 64 Cameras

As Brasileiro B club Palmeiras makes a push to combat stadium violence, the construction company in charge of reforms at the Arena Palestra Italia revealed the stadium would be equipped with "a modern system with 64 cameras, capable of identifying hooligans at football games," according to IG. Construction company WTorre New Business Dir Rogerio Dezembro explained that the R$15M investment "will result in equipment even more efficient than those demanded by FIFA." Dezembro said, "These cameras are able to do a facial recognition of high definition. To be sure of the security in the new stadium, we decided to go beyond FIFA's demands and install this type of camera." Although the new stadium will have a 45,000 seat capacity, the cameras will be able to recognize 60,000 visitors, sending the information to security teams and military police (IG, 3/13).
