A public referendum revealed that the citizens of Vienna "have no interest in hosting the 2028 Olympic Summer Games," according to ORF. Almost 72% of voters voted against an Olympic bid. A total of 212,672 voted against, while only 82,940 were in favor of a Games bid. Overall, a total of 295,612 valid votes have been submitted, which equals a voter turnout of about 29.5%. Vienna Mayor Michael Häuptl said, "It's shame, but that's how it is" (ORF, 3/12).
