Published February 28, 2013
The 2013 Chinese Basketball Association All-Star Weekend held at the Guangzhou Int'l Sports Arena surpassed previous media outreach and achieved a new record TV audience. TV ratings from CSM Media Research demonstrate that the event surpassed the mile stone of 100 million viewers for the third consecutive year. The '13 event reached almost 115 million unique viewers in China -- either on CCTV-5 or one of the local channels (Beijing TV, Guangdong TV, Shenzhen TV, Shandong TV, Shanghai TV, Jiangsu TV and FJTV8) over the course of the weekend. China’s national sports channel CCTV-5 achieved a total of 100 million people watching at least part of the programming over the weekend. The average ratings of 8.84 million viewers on Sunday are in line with the coverage achieved from the most popular games of the regular season. In addition to the extensive coverage on the national network, exposure levels have increased due to Infront’s growing provincial broadcast network. In the urban regions of Beijing, Guangdong, Shanghai, Fujian and Shenzhen -- more than 20% of the population watched the broadcast coverage either on CCTV-5 or the local channel (Infront).
