Scottish FA Appoints Former Cop David Brand To Protect Game From Match-Fixing

The Scottish FA has "appointed David Brand to be Scottish football’s gang buster" because it does not believe that "football is immune from the peddlers of match fixing," according to Hugh Keevins of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Thirty years enforcing law and order with the Crime Investigation Department and Special Branch "made Brand the perfect appointment to root out corruption before it destroys the game." His full title is the SFA’s security and integrity officer. The image his job conjures up "makes Brand sound like the Elliot Ness of Scottish football." Brand said, "Match fixing isn’t a Malaysian problem or confined to Japan. The matches that are bet on are played in smaller countries, and Scotland can’t be off the radar of the crime syndicates and criminals who will seek to infiltrate the places where they think they could take advantage of players and clubs" (DAILY RECORD, 2/14).
