UK Athletics Plans July Meet To Relive Britain's Summer Olympics Memories

UK Athletics has unveiled plans for a "three-day athletics fest under the moniker the London Anniversary Games" from July 26-28, according to Rick Broadbent of the LONDON TIMES. The event will include the two-day Diamond League meeting normally held at Crystal Palace and "will be the test of the public’s appetite for athletics in the wake of 2012." It will also give British fans a "last chance to wallow in the epic feats of stars such as Jessica Ennis and Mo Farah" before the stadium closes for redevelopment. UKA has included a Paralympic event as part of a Super Sunday schedule. Paralympian Hannah Cockroft said, "It’s fantastic to hear that there will be a Para event as it’s bringing the attention back to where it all began and gives us a chance to relive the glory of last year." Former LOCOG Chair Sebastian Coe said, "It is an important part of the 2012 legacy that as many people as possible experience world-class sport in the world-class facilities at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.” Meet organizers said that they will go after "the biggest names," including Usain Bolt, who has shunned the London meeting in recent years because of British tax laws (LONDON TIMES, 2/14).
