Nuremberg Gets WTA License To Host Clay Tournament In '13

Germany "has received a second WTA license to host a tournament in Nuremberg" in '13, according to the SID. In addition to the WTA tournament in Stuttgart (April 22-28), Nuremberg "has received one of the highly desired WTA Tour licenses." Tournament organizer Sandra Reichel, from Austria-based sports events agency Matchmaker Communications, confirmed that the city "has been awarded the license." Nuremberg "will take over the license of the WTA Int'l tournament in Barcelona." The clay tournament "will take place in the week after the French Open" from June 10-15 with a total prize money of around $235,000. Details of the tournament will be announced this week. German Fed Cup team captain Barbara Rittner said, "We are really happy about the news. It is a very positive sign and another stage on which our girls can present themselves." Back in the prime days of tennis in Germany, the country hosted six WTA tournaments (SID, 2/8).
