Adelaide Coach John Kosmina Leaves Club Again, Succeeded By Assistant Greg Griffin

A-League club Adelaide United coach JOHN KOSMINA has parted ways with the club for the second time in his managerial career, "and this time it is unlikely there will be a third coming," according to Michael Lynch of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. In "a surprising twist, the AAP has reported Kosmina may have left Adelaide knowing there would be another job waiting for him next season -- at Brisbane Roar." It is understood that the coach "had sounded out Brisbane officials about the prospects of a coaching job being available at the Roar next season prior to quitting." Adelaide Chair GREG GRIFFIN said that "he was stunned by Kosmina's decision, which was sparked by Kosmina's concerns about his future with the club and his worries about its long-term strategic planning." Griffin said, "That came as a complete surprise to me. The club was quite frankly amazed" (SMH, 1/28). In Sydney, Ray Gatt reported Adelaide assistant coach MICHAEL VALKANIS "will assume the job on an interim basis," and it is expected he "will be handed the role permanently once the club completes a review of its coaching options" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 1/29).
