Rangers CEO Charles Green Hints At Move To Blue Square Bet Premier League

Scottish Third Division club Rangers CEO Charles Green "hinted at a move to the fifth tier of English football" last week, and football Conference chiefs said that "they will discuss the issue next week," according to the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Conference Chair Brian Lee has "refused to rule out the option" of Rangers joining the Blue Square Bet Premier. Lee is "well aware that any attempts by Rangers to switch south of the border would be met by a number of obstacles." However, Lee believes such problems are "not insurmountable" and the issue is set to be discussed at a club summit Monday (DAILY RECORD, 1/15). In London, Stephen Mcgowan wrote Lee admitted that the idea also "has some support amongst his own clubs if the resistance of the footballing authorities can be navigated." Lee responded: "On Monday we have a mid-season meeting of clubs, and that could be a topic for conversation." UEFA recently "sanctioned a cross border female league in Belgium and Holland, prompting Green to threaten a sex discrimination case against the governing body if they block his desire to quit Scotland" (DAILY MAIL, 1/15).
