ARD With Above Average Ratings From Handball World Championship

German public broadcaster ARD "received above average ratings" for its broadcast of Germany's first group game of the 2013 Int'l Handball Federation World Championship in Spain, according to David Grzeschik of QUOTEN METER. A total of 3.53 million people tuned in to see Germany's 33-23 victory over Brazil on Saturday afternoon. The number translated into an "above average market share" of 19.4%. In the target demographic 14-49, the match, which started at 4pm local time, attracted 1 million viewers or a 15.2% share. In addition, German sports channel Sport1 "featured two more games from the world championship in its evening program." The game between Poland and Belarus, which aired at 8:30pm, attracted only 150,000 viewers. In the target demographic, Poland's 24-22 victory was watched by 30,000 viewers. Those numbers translated into a market share of 0.4% and 0.2%, respectively. Sport1's second game, which aired at 10pm, between defending world champions France and Tunisia attracted only slightly more viewers with 210,000. The number equaled a market share of 0.7%. In the target demographic, France's 30-27 victory was watched by 50,000 viewers and received a 0.4% market share (QUOTEN METER, 1/13).
