EPL West Bromwich Albion Legal Dir RICHARD GARLICK "is to be appointed as successor to DAN ASHWORTH as the club's sporting and technical director." Garlick, 36, who was on Rotherham’s books as a junior before qualifying as a lawyer specializing in sporting disputes, "will work alongside Ashworth until he leaves The Hawthorns in the summer to become the FA’s director of elite development" (London DAILY MAIL, 1/8). ... Olympic Committee of Israel President ZVI VARSHAVIAK will be stepping down following 16 years at the helm of the organization. He will leave next month, and IGAL CARMI and ARYE ZAIF are the early favorites to replace him (Olympic Committee of Israel). ... Canadian Paralympic Committee CEO and Dir General HENRY STORGAARD will be stepping down from his role within the organization effective Jan. 18. A search for a new CEO will commence at the end of January and will aim to have the candidate in place by early April (CPC).

COACHES/MANAGERS: New Zealand football national team captain RYAN NELSEN has been named Major League Soccer Toronto FC coach. His retirement from playing football "is a hammer blow" to the All Whites' World Cup campaign. Nelsen succeeds sacked PAUL MARINER (STUFF, 1/9). ... New Zealand Golf Board Deputy Chair PAUL FYFE has been named chairman. Fyfe, who has served in his former role for the past three years, will look to continue the work of PHILIP HASSALL, who stood down as chairman at the end of '12. Fyfe joined the board in '07 and has also acted as the chairman of the New Zealand Open Championships subcommittee for the past three years (New Zealand Golf). Superleague Greece club Panathinaikos has appointed FABRICIANO GONZALEZ PENELAS as coach. The Spaniard, known as Fabri, replaces JUAN ROMAN ROCHA (REUTERS, 1/8).
