Event Notes: London Sailing Venue To Debut Olympics-Inspired Event

The host venue of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic sailing events "is set to launch an annual event inspired by the Games," according to the BBC. Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy's Open Handicap regatta is set to take place during the August Bank Holiday weekend. Three races, inclusive of all classes, will take place Aug. 24-25 (BBC, 1/2). ... The year '13 marks Fijian rugby's 100th anniversary, and the Fiji Rugby Union has "lined up fixtures leading up to its celebration." The Pacific Rugby Cup in March has been planned as sevens rugby gears up for the Rugby World Cup in Moscow in June. The union's CEO Manasa Bravilala said that it hopes to "mark the event with some test matches, details of which were being finalized." The centennial celebration will coincide with the 2013 Federation of Oceania Rugby Union Annual General Meeting that Fiji will host (XINHUA, 1/3).
