Qatar Olympic Committee Reveals Plans To Have Environmentally Friendly Sports Facilities

Qatar Olympic Committee Secretary-General Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said that the organization "plans to have all stadiums and sports facilities in the country to be environmentally friendly by '14," according to BERNAMA. Al Thani said that heir apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani made a decision a year and half ago during the hosting of the Conference of sport and the environment, to have "all sports facilities to be environmentally friendly and sustainable." He said, "We in the Olympic Committee, with the cooperation of the Gulf Organisation, have started on water recycling project in which all the water in all the sports facilities are recycled." Al Thani also revealed that a doping lab will be opened in Doha on Dec 10. He also said that QOC in collaboration with the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, and the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation, are working on the "optimisation of energy, through several power generation projects through solar cells" (BERNAMA, 12/4).
