His appointment will take effect in January, when current Chair ALAN PASCOE becomes president (PMP Legacy). ... A-League Sydney FC "wielded the axe" on Football Dir GARY COLE. Incoming coach FRANK FARINA will not begin coaching the senior team until Tuesday's training session but "has already begun making changes," agreeing with CEO TONY PIGNATA to remove Cole (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 12/3). ... TRACEY GAUDRY was "elected president of the Oceania Cycling Confederation" and, in doing so, also gained a place on the Int'l Cycling Union (UCI) management committee. The 43-year-old "received unanimous support from the four Oceania member nations: Australia, New Zealand, Guam and Fiji." Gaudry defeated former President MIKE TURTUR (VELO NATION, 12/2). ... The head of Liverpool FC’s commercial partnership department, BRUCE BUNDRANT, has taken a job as commercial director for AS Monaco FC. Liverpool’s Commercial Partnership Department increased sponsorship revenue 400% during the four years that Bundrant led it (Monaco FC).

COACHES/MANAGERS: La Liga club Valencia has named ERNESTO VALVERDE as its head coach for the rest of the season (UEFA). Valverde has previously coached Greek club Olympiacos and La Liga teams Villareal, Espanyol and Athletic Bilbao (EL MUNDO, 12/3). ... Bundesliga club 1899 Hoffenheim "has fired its head coach MARKUS BABBEL after Sunday's 4-1 loss against Werder Bremen." Hoffenheim's U23 coach FRANK KRAMER "will take over as interim coach until the league's winter break." A top candidate for the position "seems to be German national team assistant coach HANSI FLICK" (BILD, 12/3).
