CONMEBOL, Bridgestone Deal Official; Company Will Be Title Sponsor Of Libertadores Through 2017

South America's most prestigious club competition, the Copa Libertadores, has agreed to a new title sponsorship deal with tire manufacturer Bridgestone, according to MEIO & MENSAGEM. The contract between the Japanese company and CONMEBOL will see the Copa Libertadores renamed the Copa Bridgestone Libertadores. The agreement is valid from '13-17. Terms of the deal "were not disclosed." Bridgestone replaces Spanish bank Santander, which had the naming rights to the tournament from '08-12. For the past two seasons, Bridgestone was the title sponsor of another less prestigious South American football competition -- the Copa Sul-americana (MEIO & MENSAGEM, 12/3).
