Cheshire Jets Get British Basketball League Reprieve

The British Basketball League is working with key Cheshire Jets officials "to find a solution" and "keep one of its oldest and most successful clubs going," according to Alec Doyle of the CHESTER CHRONICLE. The BBL said Wednesday night: “The BBL has taken control of the franchise at this time, and we can confirm the Jets will play Mersey Tigers on Sunday.” The BBL withdrew the Jets franchise from Owner Haydn Cook Tuesday. The league is "believed to be working on finding a suitable person to take over the Jets, but the process does not include Cook." It "remains a mystery" which team will play for the Jets on Sunday when they play their derby match against Mersey Tigers at Northgate Arena. The club’s professional players -- overseas stars Chez Marks, Shawn Myers, Kenny Moore, Gabe Haskins and Alif Bland -- "were released from their contracts" on Tuesday (CHESTER CHRONICLE, 11/1). Marks said: "It gives the team and people of Cheshire a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate how much the club mean to the community" (BBC.com, 11/1).
