Sportfive To Accept $1M Mediaset Offer To Broadcast Spain World Cup Qualifying Match

Spanish broadcaster Mediaset "is very close" to reaching a deal to air the Spain vs. Belarus World Cup qualifying match on TV in Spain, according to José Félix Díaz of ELCONFIDENCIAL.com. Marketing agency Sportfive has the rights to the game and initially asked for €3M ($3.9M) in exchange for the rights to air the game in Spain, but it appears it will settle for €800,000 ($1M) from Mediaset. The "main problem" for the German company is that it initially paid €1M ($1.3M) to acquire the rights to the game, "so it will feel obligated" to sell them even at a lower price than what it paid (ELCONFIDENCIAL, 10/11).
