British company Nöra BlueCube has won the contract to supply the seats for the Castelão stadium in Fortaleza, Brazil, according to PORTAL2014.org.br. The company will start installing the seats in the 64,000-seat World Cup stadium this month. The intention of Nöra BlueCube is to furnish "other World Cup arenas and installations for the 2016 Olympics." Wembley Stadium in London and Soccer City in South Africa both have Nöra BlueCube seats. The Castelão stadium is 87% finished as of last month and is scheduled to be concluded by Dec. 15. In June, the arena will host three Confederation Cup matches and then 12 months later, for the World Cup, it will host six games (PORTAL2014.org.br, 9/28).
IMPORTANT STEP: GLOBO ESPORTE reported that with the Arena Corinthians 52% finished as of September, more than half of the World Cup stadiums have surpassed the 50% mark. As of Monday, "seven of the 12 cities" are more than halfway done with their arena: Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Recife, Salvador and Brasilia (GLOBO ESPORTE, 10/1).
