Great Britain Paralympic Athletes Receiving Less Prize Money Than Their Colleagues

Olympians honored by the Royal Mail with special-edition stamps each received a £10,000 ($15,900) payment for image rights "as part of a deal struck with the British Olympic Association, but the fees for Paralympians will be nowhere near as generous," according to Jacquelin Magnay of the London TELEGRAPH. British Paralympic Association officials "had feared there would be no fees paid at all," but the Royal Mail agreed to donate £200,000 ($318,100) to the organization and the money will be distributed among all Paralympic athletes who receive a Gold Medal. However, with the number of British Gold Medalists already more than 20 and "rising all the time, and many of the successes in team events," it is obvious that Paralympians will lose out in comparison to their Olympic colleagues (TELEGRAPH, 9/4).
