League Notes: Brazilian Football Confederation Announces New Tournament

Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) President Jose Maria Marin announced the creation a of new competition under the umbrella of the entity. The new tournament will be the Copa do Brasil U-20. The first edition of this event will take place between the months of October and December. A total of 32 teams will be entered, and it is estimated that the competition will involve close to 1,000 players (CBF). ... The German Hockey Federation (DEB) partnered with Nuremberg-based German Hockey League (DEL) club Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers on the occasion of the first-ever DEL Winter Game. The Ice Tigers, which organize the outdoor event, expect 50,000 fans at the Nuremberg football stadium on Jan. 5. The two parties agreed that €0.50 ($0.63) of every ticket will directly benefit DEB's youth development program. In return the DEB will promote the DEL Winter Game (DEL). ... England Golf, the country's official golfing body, "has formed a partnership with the Golf Environment Organization to promote sustainable practices across the English golf landscape" (GOLF COURSE ARCHITECTURE, 8/21).

NATIONAL SPORT: Nippon Professional Baseball "will hold talks with its players union" on Wednesday regarding the players' participation in the 2013 World Baseball Classic and their previous notion to boycott (KYODO, 8/28). ... Both Japan and Myanmar's football leagues entered an agreement to promote cooperation between the two countries' leagues and "tap the management expertise of the J.League for use in Myanmar." The Myanmar National League, which consists of 14 member clubs, is the country's premier professional football league (KYODO, 8/28).
