Event Notes: FIBA 3x3 World Tour Final In Miami In September

Miami will host the final of the inaugural FIBA 3x3 World Tour season Sept. 22-23. The '12 edition sees 12 teams qualify for the 3x3 World Tour Final from five World Tour events held in São Paulo, Vladivostok (Russia), N.Y., Istanbul and Madrid over the course of the summer. The winner of the 3x3 World Tour Final will pocket $30,000 of the total prize pot of $40,000 (FIBA). ... All 112 men's squads for the Int'l Cricket Council World Twenty20 Sri Lanka 2012 have now been confirmed, which gets underway in Sri Lanka next month. The action begins in Hambantota on Sept. 18 with the final taking place at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Columbo on Oct. 7. Pallekele is the other venue for the men's event with the first round matches in the women's tournament taking place in Galle. The women's squads will be announced later (ICC). ... The 2012 Int'l Handball Federation Super Globe tournament will be held at the Al Gharafa Arena in Doha, Qatar from Aug. 27 - Sept. 1. Watar National Bank will be the exclusive sponsor of the event (GULF TIMES, 8/26).

HOT TICKET: The PTI reported that with just two months left until the F1 Indian Grand Prix, organizers "have sold 21,000 tickets, with the maximum sale coming from South India, where more than 6,000 fans have bought the entry tickets." Tickets for the picnic stand costing RS3,500 ($63) each, and premium stand, costing RS14,000 ($253) each, have been sold. Out of 21,000 tickets, 30% "have been picked up by fans in South India," 24% in the West, 21% in the North and 12% in East India. Fans based in Europe have bought 10% of the tickets so far. The Buddh Int'l Circuit "can accommodate 95,000 fans." The sale has also started at physical counters including Cafe Coffee Day outlets in Delhi, NCR Zone and at Mercedes showrooms across the country (PTI, 8/26).

RUNNING SOUTH: The 3M baht ($96,031) Samui Island Marathon "will be held on Sept. 23." Sponsored by Bangkok Airways, the third edition of the event "will be staged at Nathon Pier on Koh Samui in Surat Thani with more than 2,000 runners expected to take part" (BANGKOK POST, 8/26). ... The North Face 100 Thailand, the second edition of the country's Ultimate Trail Running Challenge, "will be held at Khao Yai on Feb. 2." Dubbed the "Ultra Marathon," the North Face 100 Thailand includes a number of distances: 100k solo, 100k duo, 50k solo, 25k run and 10k run with age and gender categories (BANGKOK POST, 8/26).
