Recopa Sul-Americana Will Now Be Called Recopa Santander Sul-Americana After New Deal

Banco Santander "is the new sponsor" of the Recopa Sul-Americana, according to MKTESPORTIVO.com. The bank will pay an undisclosed amount for the naming rights to the tournament, which will now be called the Recopa Santander Sul-Americana. The cup is a home-and-away series between the winners of the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Bridgestone Sul-Americana. This year, Santos, the Libertadores winner, faces Universidad de Chile, the Bridgestone Sul-Americana champion. With the new three-year deal, Santander will have "a strong brand presence in football in Latin America." Santander is one of CONMEBOL's (South American Football Confederation) main partners and were one of the top sponsors for the Copa America in '11 (MKTESPORTIVO.com, 8/22).
