UAE Olympic football team coach MAHDI ALI "has been unanimously chosen to replace" ABDULLAH AL MISFER as head coach of the UAE's senior national team. UAE Football Association Chair YOUSUF AL SERKAL confirmed the decision after Monday night's board meeting (GULF NEWS, 8/14). Ali, who becomes the first Emirati to coach the national team, "has been offered a three-year deal" by the UAE Football Association. The 47-year-old former Al Ahli player had previously been in charge of the country's under-19 and under 20 sides, before taking charge of the under-23 Olympic team in '10 (THE NATIONAL, 8/14). MICHAEL SCHMID will become Senior Dir of marketing agency Sportfive's winter sports team at the beginning of September. The 37-year-old will be in charge of marketing for all German ski-jumping, alpine skiing, and ski cross events (NEW BUSINESS, 8/14).
