Rangers Owner Charles Green Says Debts To Scottish Clubs Paid Off

Rangers FC Owner Charles Green revealed the Scottish Third Division side has "finally settled their debts with Scottish clubs," according to the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Green was upset after being accused by callers on James Traynor’s BBC Scotland radio show of "leaving clubs out of pocket while splashing cash on players." Green insisted while Dunfermline had previously been paid, Rangers now have also settled debts to Celtic, Hearts -- over the signing of player Lee Wallace -- and Dundee United, over £35,000 ($55,000) for gate receipts. Green said: “There are fans out there who think we are signing new players and haven’t paid our debts. This couldn't be further from the truth. They are not even my debts but I’ve paid them anyway as we want to put this behind us and rise again (DAILY RECORD, 8/13).
GREEN'S TRANSFORMATION: In Edinburgh, Michael Grant wrote: "Only one thing was notable about the fact supporters could be seen asking a man in the Rangers party to sign autographs and pose for pictures outside Peterhead's ground: the guy they were interested in was Charles Green." A few weeks ago Green "couldn't have risked being up close and personal like that without employing heavies to stand at his shoulder." The guy has "pulled off quite a transformation" (HERALD SCOTLAND, 8/13).
