Rangers FC Owner Says Club Is Close To SFA Membership

Rangers newco CEO Charles Green "hopes to secure membership" of the Scottish Football Association by Wednesday, according to the PA. Green believes that he "has reached broad agreement with the SFA and Scottish Football League" but has still to sort issues out with the Scottish Premier League (PA, 7/24). THE SCOTSMAN reported that Sevco will have to accept a 12-month transfer embargo handed to Rangers in April. However, Manager Ally McCoist "will be able to sign players" for his upcoming Irn-Bru Third Division campaign until the ban kicks in at the end of the current transfer window (THE SCOTSMAN, 7/24). The Scottish DAILY RECORD reported that Second Division Brechin City FC will "be hoping Green's claim comes to fruition" after the Glebe Park outfit revealed the financial structure for the upcoming season could be thrown into disarray if their cup tie with Rangers is called off. Brechin Vice Chair Martin Smith said that the team is preparing as normal for any upcoming home match, but the "thought of Rangers not traveling to Glebe Park has been troubling him." Financial implications of Rangers not being in the top flight, "coupled with the possible cancellation" of this weekend's cup tie, would mean Brechin's budget for the season would take a hit (DAILY RECORD, 7/24).
