Ferrari Driver Fernando Alonso Is F1's Top Marketing Earner

Ferrari F1 driver Fernando Alonso is the racing series' "marketing champion," earning between €7M-8M ($9M-10M) annually, according to Friday's issue of German magazine W&V. The two-time world champion has sponsorship deals with Puma, watch maker Tag-Heuer and Spanish bank Santander, among others. Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher is second. Schumacher earns between €5M-7.3M ($6.1M-7.3M) a year. The seven-time world champion has a sponsorship deal with Mercedes-Benz, among others. In comparison, current F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel generates between €3M-4M ($4M-5M) through sponsorship deals. The figures are the result of an analysis conducted by marketing consulting firm Sport+Markt (W&V, 7/18).
