Twitter Says Brands Should Tweet In Their Own Voice Like Football Clubs

Twitter has "encouraged brands to think like football clubs when implementing their strategies" on its site, according to Lara O'Reilly of MARKETING WEEK. Twitter Head of Sport for U.K. and Europe Lewis Wiltshire said that brands should "take inspiration from successful strategies teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool have used on the site." Wiltshire said brands, like those clubs, should "tweet in their own voice" to give fans a unique experience with their brands. Brands should also take their Twitter content offline to "encourage new followers." Wiltshire: "We like to call hashtags 'the new chant' in football and sport. [A hashtag can be] the glue that brings fans, clubs and players together" (MARKETINGWEEK.com, 7/12).
