Swiss Retail Chain Intersport International Aims High

Swiss sports-retail chain Intersport International "issued new goals for its football business" after sales increased during Euro 2012, according to the DPA. Intersport CEO Franz Julen said, "The goal for our football business has to be breaking €1B ($1.2B) in revenue during the World Cup" year of  '14. For '12, Intersport expects a revenue of about €900M ($1.1B) from its football business and a total revenue of about €10B ($12.3B). Intersport's partnership with UEFA "has been a success." The company generates "about a tenth of its revenue" through its football business. The agreement with the governing body expires in '18. However, currently Intersport generates 85% of its revenue in Western Europe, with Germany as its strongest market. Julen added, "By 2020 we want to have 500 stores in Asia that generate annually $1B in revenue" (DPA, 7/10).
