Flamengo Struggling To Pay Its Players On Time

Rio de Janeiro Flamengo FC continues to be late paying player salaries, even with the exit of player Ronaldinho, according to Pedro Ivo Almeida of UOL.com.br. With the "weight" of Ronaldinho's R$1.25M ($600,000) monthly salary off their books and the new R$3M ($1.4M) sponsorship deal signed with logistics company Triunfo Logistica, the players were hoping to receive their money on time, but that did not happen. The delay caused "astonishment among the players, who had received the promise of the executive board that wages would be paid on time." Flamengo VP/Finance Michel Levy said, "In truth wages were not paid on [Monday]. We had some financial problems and were not able to do this now. But we are hurrying to find a solution and pay as soon as possible" (UOL.com.br, 6/26).
