Telemundo Plans 173 Hours Of Olympics Coverage Aimed At Hispanic Market

Telemundo, a division of NBCUniversal, will have a reporter embedded with the Mexican Olympic team and has shot profiles of more than 80 Hispanic Olympians, including athletes from Argentina, Brazil, Honduras, Columbia and Uruguay as part of its coverage of the Summer Games. Telemundo Exec VP Jorge Hidalgo said, “We have gone around the world and done an array of stories on Olympic athletes Our reporter will be with the Mexican national team from start to finish.” Telemundo produces Spanish language content and is available in 94% of U.S. homes. Telemundo unveiled its plans for 173 hours of coverage of the Olympic Games on its U.S. national broadcast network, as well as its digital and social media properties such as www.olimpiadastelemundo.com and www.deportestelemundo.com. Hidalgo said that Telemundo will cover U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps “everytime he jumps in the pool,” but its commitment is to cover every Hispanic team and Hispanic medal winner. Hidalgo said that Telemundo will have twice the number of reporters in London than it had in Beijing. Hildago: “When we broadcast soccer of the Olympic games, it will be done live and not delayed coast-to-coast. Soccer does have a heavy rotation on our network, just because of the popularity of the sport with our viewers.”
