Fans in attendance for the match, which was part of the Int'l Champions Cup, "included Serena Williams, Tiger Woods, Draymond Green, Drake" and 40 Dolphins players. Both teams "left most of their starters in well into the second half" (MIAMI HERALD, 7/30). Even without Real Madrid F Cristiano Ronaldo, it was the "biggest soccer game ever played in Miami." The game "more than lived up to the billing." The attendance was "capacity-plus, standing room only" (MIAMI HERALD, 7/30). For one night in Miami, "soccer was king." The sport "owned its massive stage" (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 7/30). Meanwhile, Manchester City beat Tottenham 3-0 yesterday in the last leg of the ICC at Nissan Stadium. The match "drew 56,232 spectators, the highest attendance for a soccer game in the state of Tennessee." ICC organizer Relevent Sports Chair Charlie Stillitano said, "This market is very Premier League-centric and very U.S. Soccer-centric. The fans have responded really well to it" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 7/30).

MSG Co., which owns The Forum, sued Inglewood on Friday, "accusing the city of violating California's Public Records Act in connection with a deal for the Clippers to explore building an arena near the landmark sports and concert venue." In the lawsuit filed in L.A. County Superior Court, MSG said that the city "produced just five documents" in "response to wide-ranging public records requests to the city and two related agencies." All of the documents were "dated after the June 15 announcement of the city's three-year exclusive negotiating agreement with the Clippers" (L.A. TIMES, 7/29).

Official Denies Report Adidas Told Refs To Avoid LaVar Ball Technicals

Court Club Elite Founder Ed Rush, whose company provided the referees for the Adidas Summer Championships, said that Adidas employees did "not explicitly instruct referees" working the AAU event to "refrain from issuing technical fouls" to LaVar Ball. Adidas officials "declined comment." ESPN on Friday reported that Adidas reps "expressed" the sentiment to Rush and his colleagues. Rush: "No, Absolutely not true. You can quote me" (CBSSPORTS.com, 7/29).

A source said that Adidas officials had "pressured referees" to "avoid calling technical fouls against LaVar Ball because of his drawing power and their potential courtship" of Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball. The source said event officals were told to "put three officials on the game who will keep him in the building" whenever LaVar's Big Baller Brand team played this week. Ball was "given a technical by the referee working Friday's game and, after Ball threatened to pull his team off the court ... she was removed from the game." Adidas representatives said that it was "their decision to replace the referee" (ESPN.com, 7/28).

Robert Kraft Talks Patriots Training Camp Crowds, Belichick's Knowledge

Patriots Owner Robert Kraft joined ESPN’s “SportsCenter” this morning and immediately noted the crowds that had come out for training camp: “I'm just looking and seeing this and pinch myself how lucky we are that we have the fan support we have.” Kraft also talked about coach Bill Belichick's unique skill set: “To have a quality product you need people that understand the product, and he coached special teams, offense and of course defense, and he also has a training in economics from Wesleyan. When we came into the league, the salary cap had just come in. Your head coach should be someone who understands economics and value, because there is a budget. It's not unlimited, like it was before” (“SportsCenter,” ESPN, 7/30).
