SBD/Weekend Rap

Weekend Hot Reads....

The N.Y. TIMES' Ken Belson writes under the header "Downsizing Daytona Speedway." Motorsports are "following what baseball, football and other sports have been doing for two decades ... building smaller venues with bells and whistles to attract high-end fans and corporate clients."

SPORTS ON EARTH's Will Leitch will be attending the '14 Winter Olympics and wrote in researching Sochi and its setup, "I gotta tell you: I'm worried. You probably should be too." Also, the Sochi Games are "already promising to be one of the most controversial in history." Meanwhile, the proposed U.S. boycott "would only hurt U.S. athletes."

The TORONTO STAR's Don Gillmor asks of the suburban town of Markham, "At what point does a suburb become a city?" One "possible component will be a 20,000-seat arena that would, in the best of all possible worlds, host both an NHL team and an NBA franchise."
