Wrong Sort Of Birdie: D.H. Lee Flips Off Spectators At AT&T National

Golfer D.H. Lee yesterday gave the middle finger to spectators after his approach shot on the 12th hole went long during third-round play at the AT&T National. The gesture was caught live by CBS cameras. CBS' Jim Nantz said, “When you're broadcasting a sporting event, live television, you're never quite sure exactly what you might hear or see but there was an approach shot over at the 12th hole by D.H. Lee that went over the green and we happened to capture a not-so-memorable moment there for D.H. Lee’s sake.” Nantz added it "was a gesture there that I’m sure he’s not so proud of" and if that "offended you at home, we apologize but again, sometimes that’s what you run into when dealing with live television" (“PGA Tour Golf,” CBS, 6/29).
