Former Grizzlies Owner Michael Heisley is "in a Chicago-area hospital after recently suffering a stroke" (Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL, 2/24).

The Bills yesterday announced that they have signed Assistant GM & Player Personnel Dir Doug Whaley "to a contract extension." Terms of the deal were "not disclosed." Whaley is considered current GM Buddy Nix' "heir to the GM office" (BUFFALONEWS.com, 2/23).

The sellout crowd of 11,576 for yesterday’s Rockies-D’Backs Spring Training game lifted attendance at Salt River Fields to more than one million since the ballpark opened in ’11 (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 2/24).

Beginning today through March 4, The V Foundation and ESPN are teaming with NBA Cares and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by raising awareness and funds to fight pediatric cancer. One hundred percent of the donations will go toward St. Jude’s patients (NBA).

Attendance for yesterday’s Georgetown-Syracuse men’s basketball game set a Carrier Dome record with 35,012 fans. It was the game between teams with SU a member of the Big East (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 2/24).
