Bowl Attendance Roundup: Hawaii, Birmingham See Record Low Figures

There were six college bowl games over the weekend:

  • Fresno State-Houston on Christmas Eve drew 20,546 fans to Aloha Stadium, a paid crowd that is the "smallest in Hawaii Bowl history," dating back to '02 (FRESNO BEE, 12/25).
  • On Saturday night, Appalachian State-Toledo drew 28,706 fans to Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala., for the Dollar General Bowl (HIGH COUNTRY PRESS, 12/24). That is down from 32,377 for Troy-Ohio last year.
  • Army's win over San Diego State in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl on Saturday afternoon drew 35,986 fans to Amon G. Carter Stadium in Ft. Worth (SANDIEGOUNIONTRIBUNE.com, 12/23). That is the bowl's lowest attendance since '11.
  • The Birmingham Bowl saw USF beat Texas Tech before a "generously announced Legion Field crowd of 28,623" on Saturday afternoon (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 12/24). That is the lowest figure for the bowl since it began in '06.
  • The Bahamas Bowl drew 13,585 fans at Thomas A. Robinson Stadium on Friday afternoon for Ohio-UAB, up from 13,422 for Old Dominion-Eastern Michigan last year (THE DAILY).
  • Wyoming's win over Central Michigan in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Friday afternoon drew 16,512 fans to Albertsons Stadium in Boise, marking the bowl's lowest figure since its first year in '97 (THE DAILY).
