American Indian Activists Push Redskins Name Change Via Web, Rallies

An alliance of American Indian activists opposed to the Redskins name today plans to hold a news conference in DC and a "rally on Sunday at FedEx Field" ahead of the team's home game against the Cardinals. This comes after web pages appeared yesterday with "what appeared to be legitimate news sources touting a surprising name change, saying the Redskins had bowed to political pressure and would instead be called the Redhawks beginning next year." Sebastian Medina-Tayac, part of the Rising Hearts activist group, said, "We need to see now how we can make a viral social media campaign turn into a viral physical movement" (WASHINGTON POST, 12/14).
