Dodgers World Series Ticket Prices Soaring On Secondary Market

The secondary market “appears to be the way to go for those who are determined to see the Dodgers play a World Series game” for the first time since ‘88. As of last night, tickets for Tuesday's Game 1 at Dodger Stadium “started at $925 on StubHub.com, up nearly $200 since the same time on Wednesday.” Most of the seats “in that price range were in the upper deck.” Dugout Club seats were “listed at $21,500” each (OCREGISTER.com, 10/19).

Rich Eisen is "teaming up with Funny or Die and creating short-form comedic and social content that will bring in comedy elements" to his self-titled show. The content will "first premiere on his AT&T Audience Network show and then will be co-released through Rich Eisen social channels and on various Funny or Die-branded digital platforms." Eisen, a former stand-up comedian, is doing this is to "engage with his fans." The first spot premieres today as part of Funny or Die’s "Pitch Friday.” It will "allow fans to use the comedy writing app 'Pitch,' to create real-time comedy for the show" (DEADLINE.com, 10/18).

The Players' Tribune Adds BofA As Sponsor For MLB Video Feature

By Liz Mullen

The Players' Tribune has signed Bank of America to sponsor a new video featuring former MLBer and current ESPN analyst Aaron Boone talking baseball with a fan in Yankee Stadium. The video will promote BofA's #MLBMemoryBank playoff campaign and will debut today on The Players’ Tribune. In the episode, the fan and Boone will share their baseball experiences and reminisce about Boone's walk-off home run as a Yankee to win the ’03 ALCS against the Red Sox. This is the first ever deal between TPT and BofA, which is an MLB and Yankees sponsor.

Nike Produces Special Edition Sneaker Commemorating Pats' SB Victory

Nike has "produced a special edition sneaker that was manufactured using footballs" from the Patriots comeback victory over the Falcons in Super Bowl LI. The company "used two game-used balls for the body," and the laces are, in fact, "laces from the footballs as well." The Super Bowl LI logo is "located near the toe,", while the Patriots’ insignia is on the center of the heal. Game details, "including the two participating teams" and the NRG Stadium location, are "also along the heal." The sneaker "will not be for sale, but instead auctioned off by the Patriots to raise money for the Boys & Girls Club of Boston." Until then, it will be on display in The Hall at Patriot Place today and tomorrow before "moving to Gillette Stadium" for this weekend's "SNF" rematch (BOSTON.com, 10/20).

Trump Starts Petition Demanding Athletes Stand For Anthem

President Trump and VP Mike Pence yesterday “released a petition demanding all players and fans stand for the national anthem and emailed supporters asking for signatures.” The petition comes just one day after Trump “criticized the NFL for not passing a rule that would penalize players who don't stand for the anthem.” Neither the NFL nor the NFLPA has released a statement addressing Trump’s petition (NYDAILYNEWS.com, 10/19).

USWNT-South Korea Friendly Draws Sparse Crowd At Superdome

The USWNT last night beat South Korea 3-1 in an "entertaining friendly" at Mercedes-Benz Superdome, but the game "drew just 9,371 fans." Large swaths of even the stadium’s lower bowl were "completely empty." Meanwhile, the "quality of the field in New Orleans is such that the women had specifically requested it not be selected for a game." Yet the team was still "drafted into action on a field not worthy of the women’s game’s dominant program" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 10/19). Many Saints players "turned up to watch" the match, including QB Drew Brees, RB Mark Ingram and DE Cam Jordan (NOLA.com, 10/19).

Morning Hot Reads: Excused From Debate

The GLOBE & MAIL writes under the header, “How The NHL Escaped The Brunt Of The Concussion Debate.” The NHL “exists in two conceptual spaces: It's a Canadian game but an American business.” Its head offices are in N.Y., and for the past 40 years, it has been “run by Americans.” Twenty-four of its 31 clubs “pay their taxes” to DC. Despite that “domestic pedigree, professional hockey isn't seen in America as one of that country's cultural products.” It is a “foreign game played by foreigners.” This is why hockey “exists largely outside the concussion continuum, at least in terms of the debate.”

The DAILY CALIFORNIAN writes for the second year in a row, Cal’s athletic department will “receive a bailout from the chancellor’s office to close its deficit, raising questions about the long-term sustainability of the department.” If the department uses all of the funds “available from the chancellor’s office” Cal aAthletics will have received about $100M in “bailouts, subsidies and annual student fees” since FY ’10.

Final Jeopardy....

Last night’s “Final Jeopardy!” category was “Oscar Winners.”

“He’s the only actor to win three Best Actor Oscars, the most recent for his portrayal of a U.S. president.”

Last night’s edition of “Jeopardy!” featured the category “Shakespearean In the Park.”
$200: “A curse! A curse of a babe, I say, was placed in 1920 upon the team calling this park home; 84 years of futility, hence!”.”
$400: “Blow, ye winds! Blow! But blow no more at this West Coast stadium known as ‘The Cave of Winds’; ‘tis but mem’ry now.”.”
$600: “Forsooth! In 1937 Bill Veeck put forth a noble idea he’d seen in two minor league venues; add this to thy field’s walls, Mr. Wrigley!”
$800: “I say to thee from 1964 to 2008 it did house teams oft described as amazin’.”
$1000: “On June 18, 2014 Dodger Stadium did rock in merriment as this lefty held his foes hitless, in deed and fact.”

Laugh Track: Voter Fraud?

This week ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” was broadcasting from Brooklyn, and host Jimmy Kimmel noted the Yankees are one game from the World Series, but N.Y. Mayor Bill de Blasio is a “diehard” Red Sox fan and he stated it was “physically impossible for him to root for the Yankees.” Kimmel: “I give him credit for honesty, but that might be the stupidest (EXPLETIVE) thing I ever heard anybody say. You guys voted for a Red Sox fan?” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” ABC, 10/19).

Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” has been broadcasting from Chicago this week, and show regular Hasan Minhaj discussed how North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is “obsessed” with the Bulls. Minhaj said, “When Kim was a boy, his passion was basketball, especially Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. He would fall asleep with a basketball in his bed. The little dude spent hours doing meticulous pencil drawings of Bulls’ superstars. Creepy, okay!? So everybody is like, ‘Is he insane? Is he a genius?’ No, Kim Jong-un is basically me when I was in middle school: short, awkward, obsessed with basketball, weird haircut.” Minhaj: “When you look at Kim Jong-un, you may see an evil dictator. But I see every Asian kid who couldn’t make the basketball team” (“The Daily Show,” Comedy Central, 10/19).

Final Jeopardy....

“Who is Daniel Day-Lewis?”

Correct responses to the “Shakespearean In the Park” category:
$200: “What is Fenway Park?”
$400: “What was Candlestick Park?”
$600: “What is ivy?”
$800: “What is Shea Stadium?”
$1000: “Who is P Clayton Kershaw?”
