TBS' "Conan" Spoofs Recent Fenway Incident With "Racism" Sign

TBS’ Conan O’Brien noted during a recent Red Sox game at Fenway Park, "four fans were ejected after hanging this controversial sign." The sign read “Racism is as American as baseball.” O’Brien: “The message was a little confusing. Some people thought the sign was pro-racism, but the people who held up the sign said no, their message was actually anti-racism.” O’Brien: “It turns out these particular fans have been writing confusing signs for a while and displaying them at Fenway.” The show then displayed made-up signs with the following messages:

  • “Mexicans get out! (And vote for councilman Pete Gomez).”
  • “Lock her up!* In a creative workspace where she can write more books!”
  • “#Resist the temptation to speak out against our president.”
  • “Save the Earth, then again, think it's too late?”
  • “Say no to neo-Nazis, the old ones are better!” (“Conan,” TBS, 9/18).
