ESPN Films Nabs Its First Oscar For "O.J.: Made In America"

ESPN's documentary "O.J.:  Made in America" won the Oscar for best documentary at last night's 89th annual Academy Awards, with director Ezra Edelman and producer Caroline Waterlow accepting the trophy. After "praising ESPN for airing the documentary," Edelman dedicated the award to Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, as well as all victims of "criminal injustice" (EW.com, 2/26). At 467 minutes, the five-part documentary is the "longest film ever to win an Academy Award" (CBSSPORTS.com, 2/26).

ESPN President John Skipper said, "I am so proud that 'Academy Award-winning' is now the latest accolade for ESPN Films" (ESPN.com, 2/26). The documentary will air "for 5 straight nights" starting today from 11:00pm-1:00am ET and "uninterrupted" from 1:00am-9:00am Friday night on ESPN2 (TWITTER.com, 2/26).
