NBA's Silver "Confident" CBA Will Be Reached "In the Next Month"

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver appeared on ESPN's "Mike & Mike" ahead of the start of the regular season and addressed recent reports that a new CBA with the NBPA is imminent. Silver: "The reports aren't far off, but we're not quite there yet. I think we've had very productive meetings. … Both sides came to the table with a spirit of partnership, with a sense that things are going very well in the league right now. ... Both sides understood that we would both be blamed if we screwed this up, given the amount of money we were dividing between the teams and players." He added, "I'm fairly confident we're going to get that done in the next month."

Silver also discussed F Kevin Durant signing with the Warriors and what that means for the league's parity: "Durant absolutely had the right under our system to make the move that he did, and the reason he was able to was because the cap went up so much in one year as a result of our new television deals. But ideally, part of my job is to help create a system that leads to the greatest possible competition across the league. … It’s something that we continue to focus on, but you're not going to see any wholesale changes" (“Mike & Mike,” ESPN Radio, 10/25).
