Laugh Track: Fast Times

Usain Bolt appeared on last night’s edition of CBS’ “The Late Show” and took part in a race in the CBS parking lot against host James Corden, actor Owen Wilson and the rest of the show’s staff. The race announcer said, “This is the race that sports fans have been waiting for. Usain Bolt, Gold Medal winner and fastest man in the world, versus James Corden, a late-night television host who spends the majority of his day sitting, and the entire staff of ‘The Late Late Show,’ made up of all sorts and types of non-athletic people.”

Bolt was interviewed on the show sitting alongside actor Wilson, who said it has to get “stressful being the fastest man in the world.” Wilson: “A guy like you can’t say that you’re running late. No one’s going to buy that.” Bolt: “That’s my go-to line.” Corden said of his slow time in the parking lot race, “I knew that I’m not a very fast runner. This didn’t come as a shock to me, but I didn’t know I was that slow.” Bolt talked about winning the 100-meter dash in three straight Olympics, with the pressure building to win in Rio: “You think about it a lot more because you can’t mess up this one.” Bolt talked about his documentary, “I Am Bolt,” and said it was “strange at the start” having cameras following him, “but after I got to know the guys it was really easy.” Bolt: “Then we became like friends and we banter at each other. … My coach wasn’t happy all the time. He didn’t like them around all the time, but for me it was easy because I’m trying to show people my life” (“The Late Late Show,” CBS, 9/28).
