Vermont Cancels Women's Basketball Game At UNC Over HB2 Law

The Univ. of Vermont women's basketball team "has canceled" a Dec. 28 game against North Carolina in Chapel Hill "due to concerns about the state's controversial HB2 law." UVM AD Jeff Schulman said he "discussed this week with UNC the possibility of a neutral site game or to play in Burlington," but UNC "nixed those ideas" (BURLINGTON FREE PRESS, 8/25).

Meanwhile, ACC Commissioner John Swofford while appearing on the N.C.-based "David Glenn Show" yesterday "declined to take a public stand" on the law. Swofford when asked if the ACC might move championship events from the state if the bill is not amended or eradicated, said, "We don't want to damage our league with any premature decisions. We'll just see how it plays out" (CBSSPORTS.com, 8/24).
