Ohio-Record Soccer Crowd Attends PSG-Real Madrid ICC Match

Paris Saint-Germain defeated Real Madrid 3-1 last night before the "largest soccer crowd ever in Ohio," with 86,641 on hand at the Int'l Champions Cup match in Columbus. Ohio Stadium was an "electric environment not unlike something you'd find for a typical Buckeye home game." After the match, "multiple fans started running onto the field" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 7/28).

Another ICC match last night drew 44,826 fans to Soldier Field, where AC Milan beat Bayern Munich on penalty kicks. The crowd was "filled with fans of both teams, although largely pro-Bayern." The Bundesliga club's manager, Carlo Ancelotti, said, "It was a beautiful atmosphere. There was a lot of support for Bayern." The game was part of a "blockbuster week" for sports in Chicago that includes a White Sox-Cubs series, Big Ten media days and tomorrow's Venezuela-U.S. basketball exhibition at United Center (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 7/28).

Meanwhile, last night's Chelsea-Liverpool friendly at the Rose Bowl drew a crowd of 53,117, "split equally between fans in Liverpool red and Chelsea blue." Chelsea won 1-0 (L.A. TIMES, 7/28).
