NFL Owners Will Vote To Award '19-21 Super Bowls

NFL owners today in Charlotte “will vote at a meeting” on the sites of the ’19-21 Super Bowls. The owners will “hear an overview of the bids from league staff, a 15-minute presentation from each city’s bid committee and a five-minute appeal from the team owner in each bid city.” Then, “following an opportunity for questions, the vote will occur” -- first for ’19, followed by ’20 and ’21 (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 5/24).

South Florida is a “heavy favorite to win” either the ‘19 or ‘20 Super Bowl. Pro Football HOFer Larry Csonka, who is serving as the South Florida bid committee’s regional ambassador, said, “We’re going to talk about the assets of Miami and the fact that we have the weather, we have the qualifications, we have the parks downtown, we’ve got the waterfront, we’ve got the designated areas of the NFL [that] they’re going to set aside for the NFL Experience” (MIAMI HERALD, 5/24).

Meanwhile, “presenting to the owners on behalf of L.A.,” which is “eligible to host” either the ’20 or ’21 Super Bowl, will be Wasserman Chair & CEO Casey Wasserman. He said, “You put a game like the Super Bowl in L.A. and I think it’s a really unique and special combination” (L.A. TIMES, 5/24). The L.A. DAILY NEWS’ Vincent Bonsignore writes under the header, “NFL Owes L.A. A Super Bowl After Years Of Being Used As Stadium Leverage.”
