NFL Draft: Laremy Tunsil Endures Bizarre Slide Down Board

The "biggest story of the first round" of the NFL Draft involved former Ole Miss OT Laremy Tunsil, who "suffered one of the most bizarre falls down the draft board in recent history." Just before the 8:00pm ET start of the Draft, "video of him wearing a gas mask and smoking a bong was posted on his verified Twitter account." Tunsil slid to the Dolphins at pick No. 13, after which "two pictures were posted to Tunsil's Instagram account of text messages that appeared to show him asking for money from a coach at Ole Miss" (USA TODAY, 4/29). The video "was deleted within a few minutes" from Tunsil's Twitter account, which "has also been deleted" (Jackson CLARION-LEDGER, 4/29).

Dolphins GM Chris Grier said that team Owner Stephen Ross "didn’t need to approve of Tunsil’s selection, but 'was on board'” (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 4/29). The Dolphins "knew Tunsil’s checkered history, and even made final calls during the draft to make sure their information was solid" (MIAMI HERALD, 4/29).
