SportsHub Technologies Acquires RG Ventures' Fantasy Assets

SportsHub Technologies, a Minneapolis-based fantasy sports and e-sports startup, has acquired substantially all of the assets of RG Ventures LLC, including the CDM Sports suite of fantasy challenge and draft-and-play games. RG Ventures had acquired various CDM Fantasy Sports assets in '11 after the dissolution of the Liberty Media-owned Fanball.com, which had been the consumer-facing brand name for what previously was CDM Fantasy Sports. SportsHub Technologies will continue to operate the games under the trade name of “CDM Sports,” and CDM Fantasy Sports co-Founder Charlie Wiegert will help lead game operations for SportsHub Technologies.

CDM Fantasy Sports in '05-08 led an extended and successful legal fight against MLBAM and the MLBPA that allowed the use of player names and statistics in commercial fantasy games without a license. SportsHub Technologies now represents the fourth ownership entity for the company in the last decade. “For more than two decades, CDM Sports has established a reputation as one of the most trusted brands in the season-long, pay-to-play fantasy sports industry,” said SportsHub Technologies CEO Rob Phythian. Financial terms were not disclosed.
