Birmingham Bowl Sets Attendance Record; Holiday Bowl Nears Low

Attendance for Wednesday's four bowl games saw mixed results. Wisconsin-USC in the National Lending Holiday Bowl drew 48,329 fans to Qualcomm Stadium yesterday, marking the event’s second-lowest figure since it began in ’78. Only the Hawaii-Illinois game in ’92 was lower. Last year’s USC-Nebraska matchup drew 55,789 fans on a Saturday.

Meanwhile, Auburn-Memphis drew 59,430 fans to Legion Field for the Birmingham Bowl, marking a new record for the 10-year-old event. In Nashville, 50,478 fans came out for Louisville-Texas A&M in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl at Nissan Field, marking the event’s lowest figure since it switched to an ACC-SEC matchup in ’06. The Belk Bowl in Charlotte, which saw heavy rain, drew 46,423 for Mississippi State-N.C. State, up from 45,671 for Georgia-Louisville last year.
