L.A. Bid For '24 Games Sends Delegation To IOC HQ In Switzerland

An L.A. '24 Games bid delegation today is scheduled to arrive in Switzerland to "present the city to the IOC." It includes Mayor Eric Garcetti, L.A. 2024 Chair Casey Wasserman and USOC Chair Larry Probst and CEO Scott Blackmun. They will tour IOC HQ in Lausanne "Thursday morning and return" to L.A. that evening. Wasserman yesterday in announcing the bid agreement with the USOC said the Games "aren't a gamble." L.A. 2024 spokesperson Jeff Millman said that the "makeup of the nonprofit is expected to change in the coming months" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 9/2).

Deflategate Appeal Ruling Coming Down "By The End Of The Week"

U.S. District Judge Richard Berman yesterday afternoon issued a one-sentence statement on the timeline for his ruling in the Deflategate appeal, saying, "The Court anticipates issuing its Decision and Order by the end of the week." Berman on Monday said that he "anticipated having a decision in the next day or two, and 'certainly' before Friday." The delay "opens the possibility – however minute – that the sides can reach a settlement" (BOSTON GLOBE, 9/2).

Patriots QB Tom Brady was in attendance for last night's Patriots Premiere, the annual charitable gala held on the field at Gillette Stadium. He was part of a "brief panel discussion" and "was asked by moderator Scott Zolak if he did something cool during the offseason to celebrate last year's Super Bowl title." Brady, "tongue firmly in cheek," said, "Yeah, it's been such an enjoyable offseason" (BOSTON HERALD, 9/2).

Pelicans Sell Out Of Floor Seating At Smoothie King Center For '15-16

The Pelicans "have sold out all of the floor seating at Smoothie King Center" for the '15-16 season, the team announced last night to a "group of prospective season ticket holders at a fan event" at the team's practice facility. The "Hollywood A," "Hollywood B," "Feet on the Floor," Floor A and Floor B sections "were no longer an option for the full season, half-season or 12-game packages." Also, Pelicans President Dennis Lauscha "lauded the efforts that have been made to improve" the arena (NOLA.com, 9/1).

Twins Increasing Season-Ticket Prices For First Time In Four Years

The Twins this week told season-ticket holders that "prices for some seats in 2016 are increasing ever so slightly." Many of the "most expensive season-ticket packages are going up by a buck or two per game, while packages for nearly all of the middle- to lower-priced sections are staying the same." The "nudge northward for some season-ticket packages breaks a string of four consecutive years of no increases" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 9/2).

Orioles Mark 20th Anniversary Of Ripken's Consecutive Games Record

The Orioles prior to last night's home game against the Rays celebrated the 20th anniversary of Cal Ripken Jr.'s record 2,131st consecutive games played. Tributes included a video on the Camden Yards video board, and the "numbers 2,131 hung from the side of the Camden Yards warehouse." Ripken threw the first pitch "from halfway in front of the mound to longtime friend Brady Anderson to a rousing ovation." Ripken jerseys "filled the crowd." Ripken broke Lou Gehrig's record on Sept. 6, 1995 (Baltimore SUN, 9/2).

Fans who spot the code on Saturday, Sept. 5, will have until Friday to order the pizza online (Pizza Hut).

Former Fox Sports Exec David Hill Tabbed To Produce Oscars Telecast

Former Fox Sports Chair David Hill "will produce the 88th Oscars alongside filmmaker Reginald Hudlin." Hill has been "celebrated for the technical innovations he's brought to sports coverage." But he says that such an approach "won't carry over to producing" ABC's Feb. 28 Academy Awards telecast. Instead, he said that the "approach he and Hudlin have been discussing will be all about story-telling" (HOLLYWOODREPORTER.com, 9/1).
