Laugh Track .... It's Not The Humidity

Saints QB Drew Brees appeared on TBS’ “Conan” last night and discssed the Deflategate controversy: “It seems as if the NFL has been on this one now for the last few weeks. There always seems to be some topic going into Super Bowl week and this one just happens to be it. Yes, I will be asked this a thousand times and to be honest with you, I kind of chuckle because I’m just glad it has nothing to do with us” (“Conan,” TBS, 1/28).

CBS’ David Letterman said, “A company in Sweden will name your child for you (for) $32,000. You send them a check for $32,000, they’ll name your child. I thought, ‘Well I got a name. What about sucker?’ These folks ought to give the Redskins a call. By the way, I’m just here so I won’t get fined. … Earlier today Roger Goodell, who is the owner of the Super Bowl, held a press conference. He advised fans to start drinking now. Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson believes that God cares about football. That’s true, but God has a grand on the Patriots. … The weather shouldn’t be a factor because they’re playing out in Arizona. So for the Patriots, that will be a dry cheat” (“Late Show,” CBS, 1/28).

MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow appeared on CBS’ “Late Show” last night and said of the Deflategate controversy, “The repetition of the word ‘balls’ a lot has been entertaining. … I live in New England and I’m a Patriots fan, so I think it’s really silly. But if you’re an Indianapolis Colts fan, you probably think this is somewhere up there with nuclear war and North Korean genocide” (“Late Show,” CBS, 1/28).

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel said, “The Seattle Seahawks are trying to trademark the word ‘Boom’ as in ‘Legion of Boom’ and the phrase ‘Go Hawks,’ which is the name of another team, the Atlanta Hawks. If the Seahawks trademark ‘Go Hawks,’ what are they supposed to say? ‘Go us!’ And on top of that, they want to trademark the No. 12 because they consider their fans to be the 12th man. You can’t own the No. 12. I need the No. 12. I use it all the time to buy doughnuts.” Kimmel also aired a segment on Super Bowl wagering because “gambling is a big part of the Super Bowl whether the NFL wants to admit it or not” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” ABC, 1/28).
