AT&T Stadium Picked To Host WWE's WrestleMania 32 In '16

AT&T Stadium will host WrestleMania 32 on April 3, 2016, WWE CEO Vince McMahon and Cowboys Exec VP & Chief Brand Officer Charlotte Jones Anderson will announce today. The event has generated more than $100M for its host regions in each of the last three years. Anderson said of the event, "It was certainly one we wanted to do our best to secure." She and local reps "closed the deal with a high-stakes pitch at WWE’s corporate offices in Connecticut." North Texas beat out 14 other bidders (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 1/20).

National Car Rental Renews Sponsorship Of PGA Of America

The PGA of America and National Car Rental today announced a five-year renewal of their sponsorship deal. Financial terms of the extension were not disclosed. National is an official partner of the PGA of America, and the deal continues to make the company the official rental car of the PGA of America, PGA Championship and Senior PGA Championship, as well as the '16 and '18 Ryder Cups. The company is also title sponsor of the National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship and founding partner of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

MLS Kicking Off Two-Day Media/Marketing Tour In L.A.

MLS will start a two-day media and marketing tour in L.A. today. Twenty-two players – including Orlando City MF Kaká, Toronto FC F Jozy Altidore and Sounders MF Clint Dempsey – will conduct media interviews and participate in marketing campaigns with the league and MLS Works; media-rights holders ESPN, Fox and Univision; and corporate partners including Advocare, Chipotle, Heineken, Eithad Airways, Kraft and Wells Fargo.

Mechanix Wear Agrees To Five-Year Renewal Of NASCAR Deal

California-based high-performance glove maker Mechanix Wear has renewed its NASCAR sponsorship in a five-year extension that is worth in the high six figures annually. The company will announce the news today. Mechanix Wear Brand Manager Michael Hale said that the company, which has sponsored NASCAR since '02, elected to extend its performance partner-level deal because it has seen double-digit sales growth every year it has been officially associated with the sport, including a 13% spike in '14.

ESPN Testing Camera Drones For Winter X Games Coverage

ESPN today in Aspen will begin testing camera-carrying drones that will be used for coverage of the Winter X Games. The network will have the drones "hover over, aside and behind racers on sections of the snowboardcross course and at the end of the snowmobiling course." One "rule the network has to follow is to keep the drones inside a 'closed-set environment' – in other words, not over spectators, or anywhere near where they could interfere with incoming flights to the Aspen airport" (AP, 1/20).

MLS, USSF To Announce New Licensing Deal With '47 Brand

MLS and the U.S. Soccer Federation today will announce a new licensing partnership with '47 Brand, a sports lifestyle company that creates branded headwear, apparel and accessories. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Looking to grow internationally, '47 Brand will expand into soccer, launching this platform prior to the '15 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Per the terms of the agreement, '47 Brand will offer U.S. Soccer-branded headwear and apparel, non-soccer socks and gloves through online and retail channels both in the U.S. and abroad. For MLS, the company will offer league-branded apparel including headwear, scarves and gloves. '47 Brand currently has licensing agreements with the NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA and more than 900 colleges.

John Wall Wears Adidas Signature Shoe For Black History Month

Wizards G John Wall during yesterday's win against the 76ers "debuted a new gold-and-black shoe from his signature line" with adidas, one of "four released by the brand for February's Black History Month in collaboration" with Basketball HOFer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Despite the shoe premiering on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the text covering it "was not from the civil rights pioneer but rather inspirational quotes and details related to Abdul-Jabbar’s basketball career" (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 1/19).

Chicago Mayor Names Today "120 Sports Day" In The City

Digital outlet 120 Sports is celebrating its namesake 1/20 day today with a formal proclamation from Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. The company is located in Chicago, and Emanuel has named today “120 Sports Day” in the city. Emanuel’s proclamation reads in part, “Whereas, 120 Sports’ steady success supplements Chicago’s reputation as a hub for innovation and industry by standing as a stellar example of the fusion of media and technology, and news and entertainment.”

Las Vegas City Councilman Continues Petition Fight Over Stadium

Las Vegas City Council member Bob Beers is "not backing away from a petition signature fight that could force a June public election over the city's controversial soccer stadium subsidy." The city clerk last week informed Beers that it would take 8,258 signatures to "force the issue" onto the June 2 ballot. Beers today plans to submit a letter "aimed at Acting City Clerk LuAnn Holmes, disputing her determination of how many signatures are needed" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 1/20).

The Nationals reportedly have been told that they were awarded the '18 MLB All-Star Game, and the news will be announced “before Bud Selig retires at the end of the month” (WASHINGTON POST, 1/20).

The Hill Community Development Corp., city of Pittsburgh and Penguins have reached an agreement that “will allow the planned redevelopment of the former Civic Arena site to advance” (TRIBLIVE.com, 1/19).

Manchester United today announced a multiyear global partnership for KamaGames to become the EPL club’s official social casino. KamaGames will now launch several social casino games that will carry ManU branding, logo, imagery and themes (ManU).

CNN Int'l and the McLaren F1 team today announced a sponsorship deal in which the network's branding will "appear on the front wing endplates of the new Honda-powered car." No financial details were disclosed (REUTERS, 1/20).

Last night’s 1:00am ET edition of ESPN’s “SportsCenter” led with Bulls-Cavaliers, followed by Pacers-Rockets, Pelicans-Knicks and a Super Bowl XLIX preview. Last night’s 1:00am ET edition of FS1’s “Fox Sports Live” led with Villanova-Georgetown, followed by Bulls-Cavaliers, Pelicans-Knicks, Pistons-Hawks and Celtics-Clippers. The first NFL report on FS1 was the Bears naming John Fox head coach at the 42-minute mark of the broadcast.

ESPN’s Keith Olbermann called out his “world’s worst” persons in sports: Penn State’s hockey team “somehow decided that it needed to celebrate Friday’s disgraceful restoration of the wins the school forfeited because of Joe Paterno’s eternally unforgivable inaction in the Sandusky case.” Olbermann also showed his disdain for Tiger Woods, who appeared at girlfriend Lindsey Vonn’s skiing event wearing a “ski mask with a skull on it.” Olbermann also blasted Seahawks fans that left the NFC Championship game early and missed the team's fourth quarter comeback.
